Creative Repertoire Selection
Repertoire selection is one of my most time-consuming teaching tasks, but I find that when I am successful, it is also one of my most time-saving teaching tools. Finding the “best piece at the right time” is like putting a well-balanced meal together. Sharing pieces from AIM, I will put together some “combo meals” sure to bring student success.

Fixed vs. Growth: Choosing Your Mindset
Plus, a performance by the Blue Violet Duo
World-renowned psychologist Carol Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success — but whether we approach our goals with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising our children’s intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment but may actually jeopardize success. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to improve in school, as well as reach our own goals, personal and professional.” (from Mindset by Carol Dweck) In this talk, Dr. Kate Carter, performer and educator, will discuss the applications of Dweck’s book to music teaching and learning, including some of the ways we can challenge our students (and ourselves!) to question our mindset and to foster a healthier framework for pursuing our goals.
After her talk, Kate and Louise will perform compositions written by American composers for violin and piano. They will have some of their CD’s for sale after the program.
