Sonata-Sonatina Festival

Want students to be as excited about sonatas and sonatinas as you are?

We are thrilled to announce that the NSMTA Sonata – Sonatina Festival will resume IN-PERSON on Sunday, February 13, 2022! Each teacher may submit 10 students to play at this annual event. The Festival often has over 250 students participating and is designed to give students critiques on their performances. They also receive a blue ribbon for participating, and those who score 90-100 receive a gold, silver, or bronze medal.

Gold medalists may play in one of the Gold Medal Recitals on February 20, 2022.

Thank you for a successful SSF, 2022!

Congratulations to all students and teachers who participated in this year’s SSF! And a big thank you to everyone who helped in all the various jobs—we couldn’t have done it without your time and effort, and we appreciate it very much!

Medals and scoresheets are available for pick up from Grace Juang’s home until Wednesday, February 16 at 2:30 PM. Packets not picked up will be mailed by Friday, February 18. Grace is at 2475 Woodlawn Rd, Northbrook, IL 60062, 240-515-6666,   Please call or text at least 1 hour in advance before picking up.

If you have Gold Medal winners, you will be contacted by Adam Chlastawa about the schedule for the Gold Medal recitals
(in person) on Sunday, February 20 at the Saint James Lutheran Church, 1380 Waukegan Road, Lake Forest.
Recitals are at 1:00 and 2:30 PM

If you or any of your student participants test positive for COVID in the coming week, please let one of the SSF chairpersons know—MIC is keeping track of any COVID cases for contact tracing purposes to keep others informed and safe.

Thanks again for a terrific Sonata-Sonatina Festival!
