Linda Barker holds separate undergraduate degrees in elementary education and piano performance, as well as a masters degree in music from Northwestern University. Her teachers include Irene Flanagan, Kristina Stoeppenfelt, Helen Engler, Frances Larimer, David Kaiserman, and Annie Sherter. She has performed solo piano recitals at the American Conservatory of Music and Northeastern Illinois University, and has performed as soloist and in ensembles in various venues throughout the city and suburbs.
Ms. Barker founded Lakeview Piano Studio in Chicago where she has taught piano since 1976. Her teaching and coaching career has included students of all ages and levels of experience and she currently maintains a busy studio of forty-five students. Through the years, Ms. Barker’s students have earned the highest marks and awards in various festivals and contests throughout the Chicago area. In addition, she is frequently called upon to adjudicate various piano contests and festivals throughout Illinois, northern Indiana, and eastern Michigan.
Professional affiliations include the Lakeview Musical Society, and the National Federation of Music Clubs. In addition, she is an active member of the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association and served two terms as President of that organization from 2000 to 2004. From 2006-2008, Ms. Barker served as President of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association, an affiliate of the Music Teachers National Association.
