Mary Beth Molenaar, NCTM, teaches piano to children and adults of all ages in the Music Academy at Northwestern University in Evanston. In addition to teaching, Molenaar serves as the director and places students with other teachers in the Music Academy’s piano division.
Molenaar has a doctorate degree in piano performance and pedagogy (teaching) from Northwestern University, and piano performance degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She has performance credits throughout the Midwest and in St. Petersburg, Russia. She performs frequently on faculty recitals and at her church.
She received an MTNA Foundation Fellow award for significant contributions to the music teaching profession. Other awards include NSMTA “Member of the Year”, “Outstanding Service to Music Education in Minnesota”, and the SCSU “Outstanding Young Alumni.” For thirteen years she served as the ISMTA Achievement in Music Chair, overseeing comprehensive piano exams for over 3,000 students in three states.
Molenaar offers teachers workshops on topics that ranging from student retention, gifted music education, assessment, to group games. She serves as an adjudicator for piano festivals. In addition to teaching, she likes to hike, garden, knit and raises butterflies.
